When most people think of maple syrup, they think of pancakes and waffles. But maple has so many uses beyond breakfast.
Discover Schenectady and Riverside Maple Farms are celebrating this New York product with Schenectady County Maple Week from March 23-31. We are partnering with area restaurants to create new and unique spins on dishes and drinks that you can try!
At Riverside Maple Farms, we offer Sugar on Snow on Sundays in Jan., Feb, and March 12-3 pm. This beloved event calls for the pouring of hot maple syrup onto snow or shaved ice. Traditionally, a pickle is served after consuming this sweet treat. While Riverside Maple Farms currently does not offer this, co-owner Erica Welch explains, "The sourness of the pickle balances out the sweetness of the maple syrup. It sounds weird, but is wonderful!"
For Schenectady County Maple Week, The Dilly Bean will be offering customers a chance to try their signature pickle with a maple twist. Building on this idea of a sour taste after a sweet treat, Dilly Bean owner Abby Rochmacher has created a maple sugar influenced pickle. This limited edition treat will be offered in pints and quarts start March 23 until sold out. The Dilly Bean does not ship, so make sure you get there early before it is too late!
